Amazon.cob

The Church of the Brethren has been consistent in the belief that it must leverage buildings and properties, both in Elgin and New Windsor in efforts to be better stewards of resources. It has been thinking about how it might repurpose space in a way to provide additional revenue streams from outside the Church of the Brethren through additional rentals. At the General Offices, through December 2017, there have been three tenants – Brethren Benefit Trust, Living Gospel Church and the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra (EYSO).

EYSO found a new home in downtown Elgin. The Church of the Brethren is sorry to see them go, but understand that their new site better suits their needs. In that light, the General Offices is taking steps to explore how it might leverage this vacated office space, together with the former Annual Conference Office space adjacent the warehouse. It cannot depend on budgets or reserves to sustain the ongoing building needs both in Elgin and New Windsor. The Mission and Ministry Board recently called the Stewardship of Property Committee 2 (there was a previous Stewardship of Property Committee) to begin their work immediately.

The Property Committee has initiated negotiations to add the Elgin properties to Amazon's list of potential sites for its Midwest headquarters.
