IYAC

IYAC

One of the mysteries of the Bible has always been where Jesus was while he was a young adult. There is a huge gap in the biography from puberty until about three years before the crucifixion. The simplest inference is that he was working as a carpenter with his father and that nothing remarkable happened to him during this period. This prosaic scenario, Jesus as a salt-of-the-earth working man, is in character with the rest of what we know about him, and there is no good reason to invalidate it.

However, there is also the idea that Jesus went to India during this time. There were well-established trade routes, so it would not be impossible. If Alexander the Great got there several centuries earlier, why not Jesus? With the expected positive results of next summer's National Young Adult Conference, plans are already underway for the first International Young Adult Conference.

Young adults should start saving now and plan to join other young adults in a pilgrimage to visit the same sites that Jesus visited when he was their age.

DisasterCamp

Mystery Location Announced

The Youth/Young Adult Office has revealed the location of its mystery workcamp. The May 29-June 4 workcamp will be held with Disaster Response in Pennsecola, Florida. Once there, young adults will be able to help re-build homes damaged by last fall's hurricanes. Amazingly, five workcampers have already registered in spite of having no idea where they would be sent. For more information about this workcamp, check out www.brethren.org/yya/workcamps.

YAC 2005: 'Twice the Fun'

Young adults may need to make more free time on their schedules next spring. With the success of this year's National Young Adult Conference, the Youth and Young Adult Ministries Office couldn't simply return to the smaller YAC format. So, instead, it looks like there are plans underway for two regional events to take place concurrently on Memorial Day weekend, May 27-29 2005. One event will take place in Ohio at Camp Woodland Altars. The location for the second has yet to be named.

YAC

The Gospel Messenger would like to remind you to sign up for next spring's Young Adult Conference.

May 23-25, 2003
Camp Eder, Fairfield, Pennsylvania
"Being Brethren in Today's Culture"
Leader: Shawn Replogle
Cost: $80

Register early, as only the first 2,000 registration will be accepted. Shawn Replogle indicated that the sudden popularity of YAC is not due to his leadership, and that he doesn't expect many of the conference attenders to join BVS unit #255 which has been renamed the "Replogle Unit" after the amazing demand for units with ties to famous Brethren leaders. Shawn insists that his fifteen minutes of fame are long over, and that today's young adults are the real hero's within the church.
