Numa Numa

NYC will be here before you know it and you’ll have lots of choices to make. Which workshops do I go to? Which late evening activities will I attend? Do we sit on the floor in worship or the bleachers? (definitely the floor!) You also have several choices to make when you register: will I go hiking? Will I help with a service project? Should I sing in the choir? One question you might not have heard is “Will I participate in the Numa Numa Challenge?” New to NYC this year, the Numa Numa Challenge is happening Sunday afternoon from 3pm to 5pm (during recreation time).
By following clues around the CSU campus and completing challenges, you and your friends will have the opportunity to learn more about “Numa Numa.” In Ancient Greek, it means breath, wind, Spirit of God. You’ll be challenged to touch, feel, and maybe even taste the Spirit. You’ll think about God in new and different ways and experience these challenges together with your teammates. You’ll have a lot of fun going from place to place and of course, showing off your Numa Numa Challenge t-shirt. Are you ready to be challenged?

Leonard Added to NYC Worship Team
Jeannine Leonard is the first minister to be named to the team of worship coordinators being assembled for next summer's National Youth Conference. Leonard, an ordained minister in the Church of Brethren, recently gained national attention when she officiated the wedding of Kevin Heinz and Jill Peterson.

More Than Meets The Eye
Unconfirmed sources are hinting that Susan Boyle, the darling of Britain's Got Talent, will be performing the theme song for next summer's National Youth Conference. It is not clear whether Ms. Boyle will also be performing an evening concert during the conference week.
The conference coordinators could not be reached for comment.

More Than Meets The Eye

Theme: "More than meets the Eye"
Based on II Corinthians 4: 6-10; 16-18
The theme for National Youth Conference 2010 is “More Than Meets the Eye.” Chosen by the National Youth Cabinet, it is taken from 2 Corinthians 4:6-10, 16-18. It reminds us that God does great things through each person. In trouble times we are challenged not to lose heart because God is the rock that will help us overcome. Even though we may seem like simple jars of clay, with God’s light we are more that meets the eye.
In a bold move, the National Youth Cabinet opted to kick off a promotional campaign during last weekend's Super Bowl with its "More Than Meets The Eye" commercial.
"NYC has always been a revenue producer for the Church," said a M&M Board spokesperson. "We felt that the initial expense would be justified based on the increase in registrations that we are expecting."

Not willing to share the spotlight, the next NOAC will happen in 2008 and again in 2009 where it will begin a biennial pattern. The new schedule will eliminate the conference occurring on the same years as National Youth Conference. NOAC also added, "NYC never visits, they never write, they don't even call. Kids these days... just wait until they have kids of their own." Not surprisingly, NOAC has no plans to establish a presence on MySpace.

Youth Future
Our Youth Are the Future of the Church
The 38th annual Southeastern District Conference, cleverly scheduled on July 28-30, was led by moderator Jim Hoffman on the theme, "Mostly Together in God's Presence." Emphasising that the youth are the future of the church, but not the present, a total of 94 delegates represented 27 congregations, and a total of 167 adults were in attendance while youth and leaders who were returning home from National Youth Conference in Colorado.
A time was held during the business to have small group discussions as part of the denominational study process Mostly Together: Conversations on Being the Church. Discussion focused on the question, "What does it mean to be the church today?" This was a very productive time of conversation, co-executive minister Martha Roudebush reported. Saturday night's insight session provided leadership training for individuals to lead their congregations in this conversation.
Roudebush said that the district faced a "productive" situation this year. "The parliamentarian was at National Youth Conference," she said, "and the moderator-elect was also at NYC."

As youth across the denomination are receiving their NYC DVD's, the Youth and Young Adult Ministries office would like them to know that National Youth Conference will also be available in other media.
Just released this week, NYC: Patio Dance Revolution is a video game that is available for several systems including the X-Box and Sony Playstation.

Together
“Can we talk?”
If a peace church can’t,
then who can?
Together: Conversations on Being the Church is most of us in the Church of the Brethren getting together in small groups to talk about being the church. We’ll worship, listen, learn, pray, reflect.
“Together” conversations are not scheduled for all church-wide conferences from spring 2006 through spring 2007, but every district will hold at least one. Especially important will be the conversations that take place in congregations, including your own.

NYC Theme
Artists Sought
The National Youth Cabinet and the Youth and Young Adult Office invite Brethren artists to submit ideas for a logo representing the theme for next summer's National Youth Conference. It is the desire of the cabinet to have both a static and dynamic version of the logo, but they are not expecting artists to submit dynamic versions at this time.
The theme, just announced by the committee is "For such a time as this, come to the edge with eyes of faith and see!" Please ponder the theme as you design a logo possibility.
Drawings and explanations of logo entries must be received by the Youth and Young Adult Office no later than July 15, 2005. Submissions must be on paper size 8 1/2" x 11" or smaller. If you choose to submit a color entry, we also request one in black and white. The Church of the Brethren logo may not be used as part of the design. All entries should include the artist's name, address, and phone number on a separate sheet of paper. The National Youth Cabinet intends to select a logo at its fall meeting. The artist whose design is selected should be prepared to consult with our graphic designer for final adjustments, to participate in developing a dynamic version of the design, and to participate in production of any large scale versions (i.e. banners, worship center, etc.)
