How Christianity Briefly Conquered the Solar System
By the 1700s, there could no longer be any doubt. Earth was just one
of many worlds orbiting the Sun, which forced scientists and theologians
alike to ponder a tricky question. Would God really have bothered to
create empty worlds?
To many thinkers, the answer was an emphatic "no," and so cosmic pluralism - the idea that every world is inhabited, often including the Sun - was born. And this was no fringe theory. Many of the preeminent astronomers of the 18th and 19th century, including Uranus discoverer Sir William Herschel, believed in it wholeheartedly, as did other legendary thinkers like John Locke and Benjamin Franklin. How could so many geniuses believe in something so silly?

Did Jesus die for Klingons too?
What would the discovery of an alien civilization mean for the most
basic tenets of Christianity? This question was explored last Saturday
at the 100 Year Starship Symposium in Orlando, Florida. At this DARPA-sponsored event, theologian Christian Weidemann of Ruhr-University Bochum attempted to square the messianic salvation of mankind with an endless galaxy rife with laser-griffins and sentient mop empires.

Pope's Astronomer Would be Pleased to Baptize an Alien
Guy Consolmagno, astronomer to the pope, is profiled in the Economist. He says intelligent design is "bad theology" that has been "hijacked" by American creationist fundamentalists. He also would be "delighted" to discover intelligent extraterrestrial life.

Consolmagno curates the pope's meteorite collection and is a trained astronomer and planetary scientist at the Vatican's observatory. He dismissed the ideas of intelligent design – a pseudoscientific version of creationism. "The word has been hijacked by a narrow group of creationist fundamentalists in America to mean something it didn't originally mean at all. It's another form of the God of the gaps. It's bad theology in that it turns God once again into the pagan god of thunder and lightning."

Exterminate!
In The Rings of a Tree
Bill Johnson, of Davidson County's Midway community, said he was walking his dog when he saw the log left behind by his landlord, who had cut several limbs fallen from a tree in their neighborhood.
Johnson said he immediately went to find his wife when he saw the image.
"I don't go to church, but I believe in it," Johnson said. "My daughter told me he was trying to tell me something, but I don't know what."
However, anyone who's seen Doctor Who knows that this mark has a much more sinister connotation.

Exotheology
Did Jesus Die for Little Green Men?
Is it possible that there is intelligent life out among the stars? And if there is, what would be the theological implications of this fact? Many Christians have assumed that there could not be intelligent extraterrestrials, and that if some were discovered then this would somehow constitute a challenge to the Christian faith.

This Event is Free to Attend and Open to the Public
Christian Symposium on Aliens
VISION: To present Biblical evidence that the phenomena and entities commonly referred to as "aliens" by popular culture are indeed spiritual in nature - opposed to genuinely extra-terrestrial - and is best described as the activity of "fallen angels" intent on deceiving mankind away from a knowledge of the true God and gospel of His Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
MISSION: To assemble many of most noted Christian authors and researchers in the field of "alien" research, so that others may benefit from their consensus view and combined decades of research and ministry, and thus equip The Body of Christ to not be deceived by these "...seducing spirits and doctrines of devils" (1 Tim 4:1) and perhaps most importantly, to effectively minister to those currently bound and tormented by their influence.
This event is free to attend and open to the public, but Roswell is typically packed on UFO Festival Weekend. Pre-register to ensure "Guaranteed Seating" by pre-ordering the 3 DVD set containing July 3-5 lectures on 2 DVDs and July 5th symposium on 3rd DVD.

The Saddest Day in Nostalgic History
Every spring, Christians reflect on the sacrifice of Jesus. But who mourns for Giant Robot? Who salutes the skies and thinks, thank you for protecting the Earth from the great rubbery space menace? I ask you, could your Jesus shoot rockets from his fingers? Well, could he? No.

“And so, the saga comes to an end,” the narrator then says. “Giant Robot sacrificed himself to save the Earth.”

Aliens Are OK
Aliens Are OK
The Vatican's chief astronomer says that believing in aliens does not contradict faith in God.
The Rev. Jose Gabriel Funes, the Jesuit director of the Vatican Observatory, said that the vastness of the universe means it is possible there could be other forms of life outside Earth, even intelligent ones.
In an interview published Tuesday by Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano, Funes said that such a notion "doesn't contradict our faith" because aliens would still be God's creatures.

COBSF
Planet of the Love Feast"The planet around them was alien; the star-charts claimed it was Earth-type G, but semi-desert. The crash landing had been unfortunate. But the planet had seemed beautiful and inviting from space, even though they had landed in a desert, bordered by distant mountains. It would be an easy matter to get to more pleasant surroundings and begin a life on this virgin world. So begins "Planet of the Love Feast," the first novel of the new line of science fiction titles to be published by Brethren Press.
Darkness had fallen a few hours earlier and Jon Crayford built a campfire from the wood sections of the small space car that had brought them there.
He looked at his lone companion. He couldn't have made a better choice. She would surely be an inviting companion in the coming weeks, months and probably years. Righteous and pious looking; she was in the prime of life. At the time, though, there had been only one thought in mind: a holy sacrament. The escape from the Penal-Ship, which was taking him to Penalton Planet, had been impulsive, sparked by the unexpected trouble among the Ship's officers. He'd grabbed the first basin, towels, bread and wine near him.

Farewell Mr. Songman
| Anyone who grew up in the 70's surely remembers those hilarious Slim Whitman TV commercials...as kids we had never heard of Slim Whitman, but here was this yodeling cowboy who claimed to have sold more records than anyone in the world! According to Slim Whitman Collector's International he "has sold 70,000,000 records world wide and has wall to wall gold, platinum and double platinum records. His television marketed LP "All My Best" sold 4,000,000 units which is a TV marketing record. Slim is noted to be one of the world's greatest yodelers and has a range of over 3 octaves." That's so weird, because in all our years of collecting, we've never met one person who admits to owning a Slim Whitman album! Slim most recently gained national attention in Tim Burton's sci-fi comedy remake of Mars Attacks. Slim's rendition of "Indian Love Song" was found to be the only weapon that would destroy the alien invaders. Playing this song in the presence of aliens caused their heads to explode! And need we mention it? Slim is Brethren! |
